Our Story
Educating Minds, Inspiring Hearts
The ESSU Can‑avid Campus began as the Can‑avid Rural Agricultural School (CRAS) on June 18, 1961 under R.A. 3500, initially offering secondary vocational agriculture and homemaking courses. Classes began at Can‑avid Central Elementary School using shared resources before moving to a 150-hectare site in Barangay Mabuhay in October 1962.
June 18, 1961
Established as Can‑avid Rural Agricultural School (CRAS), offering secondary vocational agriculture and homemaking.
October 15, 1962
Relocated to a permanent 150‑hectare campus in Barangay Mabuhay, about 8 km from town proper.
November 18, 1968
Elevated to Can‑avid National Agricultural School (CNAS) via R.A. 5411.
January 20, 1976
Converted to Can‑avid Junior Agricultural College (CJAC) under R.A. 7613, enabling the offering of collegiate Agricultural programs.
October 30, 1999
Integrated into Eastern Samar State College as ESSC‑Can‑avid pursuant to RA 8292 and RA 8745.
August 7, 2004
Adopted the current name Eastern Samar State University – Can‑avid when ESSC became ESSU under R.A. 9312.
